Routes

From Bali to Ped

Two common harbours in Bali, one short crossing, then a short drive. All times below are estimates.
  1. From Sanur

    Fast boat across

Fast boats to Nusa Penida leave from Sanur, in south Bali, several times a day. Sanur is about 30 to 60 minutes by car from the airport, depending on traffic.

Estimated crossingAbout 30 to 45 minutes

  2. From Padang Bai

    Boat or ferry

Padang Bai, in east Bali, has fast boats and a slower public ferry to Nusa Penida. It is about 1.5 to 2 hours by car from the airport.

Estimated crossingFast boat about 30 to 45 minutes, ferry often 1.5 to 2 hours

  3. On the island

    By road to Ped

Boats from Bali land on the north coast of Nusa Penida. Desa Ped is on the same coast, so the drive to Utamaru is short. Arrange a driver in advance or at the harbour.

Estimated driveAbout 5 to 20 minutes, depending on the harbour

Travel times are estimates for planning only. They change with traffic, weather, sea conditions and operator schedules.

Arriving

The north coast

Boats from Bali arrive on Nusa Penida's north coast. Desa Ped lies along this same stretch, so the last part of the trip is short.

Before you travel

A few tips

Small things that make the trip from Bali easier.
  • Check boat times

Schedules change with the season and the sea. Confirm your boat with the operator a day ahead.

  • Share your arrival

Send the owner your boat and expected arrival time on WhatsApp, and ask for directions to the homestay.

  • Island levy

Visitors to Nusa Penida may be asked to pay a local levy on arrival. Check the current amount before you travel.
